GUJRANWALA, Oct 19: As many as 41 people were booked and 15 of them arrested here on Tuesday on charges of blocking the GT road and chanting slogans against police.

Reports said an angry mob went on rampage when 12 outlaws shot dead an orphan girl, Rehana, and injured her sister Shabana during an abortive dacoity bid on Monday.

The police claimed to have arrested three suspects involved in the dacoity attempt.

Meanwhile, residents of Fatomand took out a procession against the police for alleged custodial killing of Waqas Ishaq at the behest of rivals.

The protesters alleged that the police tortured Waqas and later removed him to the DHQ hospital where he died due to the negligence of medical officer. They demanded action against the SHO concerned and the doctor.

ESCAPED: An under-trial prisoner escaped from police custody in Wazirabad on Tuesday.

Reports said a police van took some 40 prisoners for appearance in Wazirabad courts from where Aslam involved in over 14 cases of dacoity, murder and kidnap escaped after breaking the floor of the van. Police are investigating.

TWO KILLED: Two milkmen were killed while five others sustained injuries in a road accident here on Tuesday on the Sheikhupura Road.

Reports said a truck laden with milk pots was on its way to Tetley from the city. Near the village, it rammed into a tree and overturned. As a result Muhammad Ali and Abdul Rashid died on the spot. The injured were rushed to the local civil hospital in a critical condition. Police have registered a case.

SHOPKEEPERS FINED: The district administration caught some 200 shopkeepers for blackmarketing and overcharging and imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on them here on Tuesday.

Reports said the shopkeepers and traders enhanced the prices of essential commodities with the advent of Ramazan. The district administration took serious note of it, and formed various teams under the supervision of the district officer (revenue). These teams conducted raids and caught 200 shopkeepers and traders on charges of overcharging.

The district administration warned that the shopkeepers and traders involved in blackmarketing would be sent to jail following registration of criminal cases against them.

RECREATION PARK: The city tehsil council sanctioned a fund of Rs0.5 million for the construction of a recreation park in the People's Colony here on Tuesday.
