HYDERABAD, Sept 11: The Hyderabad Development Authority has urged the Sindh governor to ensure payment of HDA's dues against federal and Sindh governments.

According to the break-up, Rs258.017 million are outstanding against the federal government, Rs33.718 million against Wapda, Rs412.542 million against the Sindh government, Rs6.818 million against the district government and Rs102.170 million against three taluka municipal administrations.

The amount of liabilities has been estimated at Rs294.695 million whereas dues are calculated at Rs813.265 million upto end of the last fiscal year.

The director-general of the HDA, Tahir Ahmed, told Dawn on Saturday that a detailed presentation in this connection was given to the Sindh governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, in Karachi, on Thursday.

The DG said Mr Ibad had ordered release of Rs240 million funds from the governor's package of Rs500 million for the city.

The dues of HDA stood at Rs813.265 million of which Rs444.114 million pertained to water and Rs369.151 million sewerage.

The DG said liabilities should be cleared through adjustment against electricity bills whereas government departments be directed to pay regular monthly bills.

He said Rs100 million subsidy per annum to the HDA should be restored and reference be made to the federal government to apply agriculture and not industrial tariff on the Water and Sewerage Agency. Wasa should also be allowed to enhance its existing water supply tariff by 50 per cent.

The meeting was told that expenditure against the income had substantially increased since 1977.
