FAISALABAD, July 3: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (City) contractors have uprooted old trees along various city roads in contravention of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance.

The action, which has been taken to widen roads, has caused indignation among plant lovers.

The contracts for widening and expansion of roads were awarded by the administration to the National Logistic Cell and other private contractors, who order uprooting of trees.

They had recently cut old trees along the State Bank and the Regency roads.

Resenting the decision, people said removal of trees would not only increase pollution, but also destroy greenery and affect birds.

Ironically, not a single non-government organization has so far raised voice against "massacre of trees."
