FF underbidding to be probed

ISLAMABAD, April 21: The government has ordered an inquiry against the management of Fauji Foundation for underselling a sugar mill to a business enterprise, which did not even participate in the bidding process. Revealing the details in the National Assembly in response to a question by MNA Shamim Akhtar on Thursday, Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Tanvir Hussain said Khoski Sugar Mill was sold at Rs300 million to an enterprise against the highest received bid of Rs387 million.

He said the transaction took place during the tenure of the incumbent Chairman Fauji Foundation, Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Hussain.

MNA Tanvir said the ministry had ordered an inquiry into the matter to fix specific persons, who violated the financial procedures to benefit a firm at the cost of welfare of soldiers.

In reply to another question by MNA Shamim Akhtar, the defence ministry told the house that the managing director of Fauji Foundation was drawing a salary of Rs231,625 per month.

DHAs: In reply to a question by MNA Laeeque Khan, the defence ministry informed the house that the armed forces had developed housing societies on thousands of kanals of state land in Sindh, Punjab and the federal area.

The reply given by the defence ministry showed that the defence forces had no housing scheme in NWFP or Balochistan.
