LARKANA, March 2: A group of transporters blocked the Airport Road here on Tuesday to protest against Sindh minister Altaf Hussain Unnar for not allowing them to ply buses on the Badah-Karani route.

Bashir Unnar, who led the protest, alleged that the minister wanted to establish a monopoly on the route after introducing a wagon service. The road remained blocked for some time till the TPO arrived there and assured the protestors of justice.

ARREST: The Anti-Corruption Establishment officials arrested on Tuesday the personal staff officer of the regional chief (operation) of the National Bank of Pakistan on the charges of being involved in a fraud of Rs 2,060,000.

He has been detained at the Taluka police station for interrogation. Circle Officer of the ACE Mehtab Hussain Butt told Dawn that the bank official had approached the manager of the Bank Square branch of the NBP for opening an account of the revenue officer of Hesco-I, Larkana.

Later, Rs2,060,000, which had been deposited by the Chandka Medical College for the payment of electricity dues, was fraudulently withdrawn by the account holder.

WOMEN KILLED: Two women were killed by their husbands after being dubbed as kari in two villages of the Shahdadkot district on Monday. A woman, Mukhtiar Chandio, was killed in the Buthi Behram village, some 30km off here. In another incident, a man, Latif Chandio, killed his wife Khairan on the pretext of karo-kari in the Sarwar Chandio village on the outskirts of Warah.
