HYDERABAD: Students storm VC's office

HYDERABAD, Feb 13: Violence erupted in the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, on Saturday after two students were arrested by police following clashes between two political groups.

The students ransacked the office of the vice-chancellor and administration block in protest against the arrest of the activists of the Sindh People's Students Federation (SB) and Jeay Sindh Students Federation.

They were identified as Mukhtiar Awan of the SPSF-SB and Badar Junejo of the JSSF. The students smashed windowpanes of the VC's office broke iron gate of the administration block and fence of the canteen.

Students wanted release of their colleagues and no more police action. The VC was not present in the office as he was accompanying the federal secretary of education during a visit.

Police were called to control the situation. Earlier, students of the two sides grappled each other at canteen leading to injuries to Ejaz Khan of the JSSF and Abdul Sami of the SPSF-SB.
