LAHORE, Feb 13: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi says the Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme of the government is being highly appreciated at world level.

Pervaiz Elahi told American Consulate Principal Officer Brian G.Heath at a meeting on Sunday his government was taking effective steps for the provision of all missing facilities in 64,000 schools in the Punjab.

The number of enrolments in government schools had substantially increased because of new education policy. Measures were also being taken to upgrade all middle schools to high school level.

The chief minister said reforms in the health sector were also being initiated in the province. He said the government had allocated resources for the up-gradation of basic health units and tehsil and district headquarters' hospitals. Moreover, in order to improve the administrative capability of the government departments, information technology was being promoted which was resulting in the simplification and transparency of the functioning of government departments.

Pervaiz Elahi said both Pakistan and America were making joint efforts for world peace. He said there was a wide scope of further cooperation between the two countries in the fields of social welfare, health, education and investment.
