SIALKOT, Jan 12: The district council has expressed concern over inordinate delay in the auction of the forest department's trees due to alleged slackness of the officials.

At a district council meeting presided over by convener Chaudhry Arsal Waqar Ghuman, the house unanimously passed a resolution presented Jaithikey union council Nazim Hashmatullah Malik against inordinate delay in the auction of the hundreds of trees lying along the main roads and highways.

The convener constituted a committee, headed by Sialkot DCO Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi, to probe the issue. The council also took a dim view of the poor performance of the union council monitoring committees, which have failed to check violation of ban on serving meals at wedding ceremonies, fireworks and aerial firing.

Talwara Mughalaan Union Council Nazim Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali Dhadi presented a resolution through which he said the performance of committees was unsatisfactory. A committee, headed by the DCO, will also look into the matter of serving meals at weddings as well.

ALLOCATION: The Tehsil Municipal Administration has allocated a special grant of Rs20 million for the re-sinking of 83 water-supply tubewells in the city to ensure provision of potable water to more areas.

This was stated by Tehsil Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema while talking to newsmen. He said due to less rains in Sialkot, the underground water level had significantly dropped. The project would started by the end of the month, he added.

SUI GAS: Punjab Industries and Investment Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema inaugurated on Wednesday the supply of Sui gas facility to Ballaanwala, Maachi Khokhar, Daallowali, Kammanwala and other rural areas nearby. The facility has been provided to several localities at a cost of Rs50 million.
