SUKKUR, Jan 10: A large number of lawyers from the city, Ghotki, Pano Akil, Mirpur Mathelo, Khairpu and Gambat gathered here on Monday to observe a black day in protest against the holding of offices of the president and chief of army staff by Gen Pervez Musharraf.

The black day was observed on the call of the Pakistan Bar Council. The lawyers held a meeting at the office of the District Bar Association here, hoisted a black flag on the building of the association and wore black armbands.

They criticized what they called illegal and unlawful continuation of Gen Musharraf as the president in violation of the constitution and vowed to continue to strive for supremacy of the constitution, rule of law, independence of judiciary and establishment of a real parliamentary democracy. The lawyers decided to participate in the All Pakistan Lawyer's Convention in Karachi on January 29.

LARKANA: Responding to the call of the Pakistan Bar Council, lawyers observed a black day and hoisted black flag atop the office of the District Bar Association here on Monday.

They were protesting against President Gen Pervez Musharraf's decision to keep the army post. District Bar Association president Safdar Bhutto and secretary Shahid Iqbal Siyal spoke on the occasion.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: On the call of the Pakistan Bar Council, the lawyers boycotted court proceedings in Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro and Bhirya on Saturday against non-recovery of two kidnapped judges of Shikarpur and President Gen Pervez Musharraf for holding the additional post of the Chief of the Army Staff.

District Bar Association president Sardar Akbar Ujjan, general secretary Abdul Ghafoor Kalhoro and senior lawyers led the protest in Kandiaro and Moro, respectively, and boycotted the court proceedings. They said that the Sindh government and police have failed to recover the kidnapped judges of Shikarpur.

The lawyers regretted that President Gen Musharraf had failed to fulfil his promise made by him with the people of Pakistan and was holding the dual offices.
