FAISALABAD: Body to resolve DBA issue

Published January 10, 2005

FAISALABAD, Jan 9: A three-member committee has been constituted to resolve the issue of district bar association. Former DBA president Muhammad Amin Shad, ex-MPA Talib Hussain Advocate, and Chaudhry Safdar Hussain are the members of the committee and listen to both the groups.

The committee has been constituted by the DBA office-holders, senior lawyers and representatives of the Punjab and Pakistan bar councils. A controversy had erupted between the DBA members and office-bearers of the Punjab and Pakistan bar councils over the suspension of DBA president Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain for his alleged corruption in Lawyers Housing Scheme.

Resolution: Over 700 students of the University of Agriculture have passed a resolution against the expulsion of their 18 fellows from the campus, demanding that the Punjab governor take stock of the situation. A copy of the resolution signed by over 700 students had been sent to the president, the prime minister, the chief minister, the governor and the District Nazim.

The resolution said there was no law and order problem on the campus before the expulsion of students by the vice-chancellor, but the university management was playing in the hands of anti-Islam groups and hatching conspiracies to convert the varsity into a secular institution. Meanwhile, the students have announced that they will stage a sit-in in front of the offices of the VC on Wednesday.
