HYDERABAD, Dec 27: Activists of the Qasimabad Action Committee observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Sunday against a proposal to bifurcate the district on ethnic lines.

Talking to journalists, committee chairman Mehboob Abro alleged that the Hyderabad district was being bifurcated on lingual basis to please an allied party of the government.

He warned that people of the district would not accept such a division. He supported the stand of District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman that a city government, based on eight towns, should be established in Hyderabad.

PONM: The Sindh council of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations' Movement Sindh chapter has held government responsible for tribal disputes in Sindh. At its meeting, the council said kidnapping of the two judges was an ample proof of the failure of the government.

The president of the PONM Sindh chapter, Dr Qadir Magsi, presided over the meeting. Expressing concern over the prevailing law and order situation in Sindh, the meeting decided to launch a protest movement for the restoration of peace in Sindh.

It condemned the interference of uniformed people and intelligence agencies in politics and said it was the root cause of all problems being faced by the people. It demanded the supremacy of parliament should be restored and provinces should be given full autonomy.

It demanded that kidnapped judges be recovered without delay. Syed Zain Shah of the Jeay Sindh Movement, Azhar Jatoi, Maulana Ubedullah Bhutto, Qamar Bhatti, Ayub Shar, Syed Munir Shah, Haider Shahani and Mansoor Khaskheli attended the meeting.
