PESHAWAR, Nov 21: A meeting held here under the chairmanship of Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah has decided to create an education foundation for Fata.

The Fata Education Foundation, which will have an endowment fund of Rs107 million, would establish a medical and an engineering college in the tribal areas as a first step, according to a decision taken at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by political agents, Secretary to the Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Secretary of Fata Security, Brig. Mahmood Shah, and Director of Education, Fata, Dr Abdur Rauf.

All the tribal agencies would contribute to the endowment fund of the foundation. Addressing the meeting, the governor said that the establishment of the Frontier Education Foundation had proved very successful in promoting education in the province which led to the decision of establishing a separate foundation for Fata.

The governor said that since the number of degree colleges in Fata had reached 34 in a very short time it was felt necessary to have professional colleges in Fata as well. --APP
