HYDERABAD, Sept 20: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Monday called for comments from the returning officer of NA-299 (Tharparkar-I) on a petition jointly filed by two PPP MPAs and an activist , seeking registration of an FIR against the district nazim and some police officials of Tharparkar.

The petition pertains to alleged harassment and attempted kidnapping of People's Party Parliamentarians MPA Saussi Palijo during August 18's by-election. Additional Advocate-General of Sindh Masood A. Noorani submitted comments of the DPO and presiding officer of a women's polling station in Diplo where MPA Saussi had been involved in an unpleasant incident.

The DPO, in his comments, said that police constables Rasheeda and Zubeda had acted on judicial orders of the returning officer, Ghulam Mehdi Sangi. He further said that at the Mango police post, checking was conducted for security purposes and denied that anyone was harassed there.

The presiding officer, Ms Perveen, in her statement said that Ms Palijo, a polling agent of her party's candidate, had raised objections that the women voters' national identity cards did not have their photographs and she was told that the NICs of women of rural areas normally did not have photographs.

The presiding officer said that Ms Sassui's objections were reasonable but she continued interfering in smooth polling. Ms Perveen maintained thatMr Sangi arrived there and she submitted an application to him against Ms Saussi and then action was taken against her.
