HYDERABAD, Aug 26: The Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench has issued notices to Tharparkar district nazim and DPO, police officials of Mithi, Diplo and Kaloi, NA-229 returning officer and a polling officer, and Mirpurkhas AIGP for Sept 7.

Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany here on Thursday issued the notices on a joint constitutional petition filed by People's Party Parliamentarians MPAs Sassui Palijo and Makhdoom Jameeluzzaman, and a party leader, Abdul Sattar Lohar, seeking registration of case against the respondents.

The petitioners alleged manhandling of MPA Palijo during NA- 229 (Tharparkar) by-election where she and Mr Zaman were appointed polling agents by their party. Claiming that Ms Palijo had witnessed ballot boxes being filled with bogus votes by the polling staff, they said that on their objection, they were tortured, humiliated and illegally arrested in full public view by respondent policemen on instigation of lady presiding officer of Diplo polling station.

Moreover, the returning officer used insulting language against them during five hours of illegal detention, they added. The petitioners maintained that on Aug 17, while on way to Mithi, they were restrained on gunpoint for four hours at the Wango check post, from where they managed to escape and reach their destination.
