ISLAMABAD, June 11: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has underlined the need for revitalization and strengthening of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and effective follow up of the strategy outlined in the OIC's resolution on enlightened moderation, adopted at the 10th Islamic Conference, held in Puttajaya in October 2003.

According to press release issued here by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President made these remarks following a presentation by Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar on the forthcoming session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (ICFM), being held in Istanbul from June 14 to 16.

Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, who is leading the Pakistan delegation to the ICFM, attended the briefing.

The foreign secretary made a comprehensive presentation to the President on the ICFM and the important issues before it, including election of the next OIC secretary general, Jammu and Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq and enlightened moderation.

The foreign secretary said Pakistan would pursue a proactive and interactive policy and work towards consensus within the Islamic Conference on all major issues.
