KHAIRPUR, June 11: A large number of residents of Nizamani village, Kingri taluka, took out a protest rally on tractor trolleys, motorcycles and bicycles against Hesco on Friday.

The rally started from the village and reached Khairpur where the protesters marched through main thoroughfares before reaching the press club.

Talking to newsmen, they said that during recent storm, four electric poles had fallen, resulting in suspension of power supply to their village and surrounding areas. They said that they had informed the Hesco officials about the incident but they did not pay any heed.

They said that in the meantime, some unknown persons took away wires of the poles. They said that due to continued power suspension, they were facing difficulties in the extensively hot weather.

Later, the protesters met the executive engineer, Hesco, who assured them of immediate restoration of power supply to their village. Meanwhile, residents of Pacca Chang, taluka Faiz Ganj, held a protest demonstration against Hesco for resorting to unscheduled load shedding.

The president, Shehri Ittehad, held talks with the local Hesco officials and warned them that if power breakdowns did not end, they would extend the scope of their protest.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: People from Abran town on Friday took out a procession and staged a sit-in against Hesco for disconnection of power for the last one week. Some 150 people of the town, led by councillors Anwar Channo and Sher Mohammad Mashori reached the Hesco complaint centre, Naushahro Feroze in vehicles and burnt tyres and blocked the National Highway for one hour.

They complained that Hesco officials had disconnected power supply without any reason and the line superintendent was restoring power to those who met his pecuniary interest. They alleged that the line superintendent was instigating people for power theft to extract money.
