LARKANA, June 2: The National Telecommunication Company has rendered telephones of the Larkana police department one way due to non-payment of dues. The department is facing communication problem due to the action of the NTC , DPO Abdul Sattar Detho told this correspondent on Tuesday.

He said that telephones of even the DPOs of operation and investigation wings and police stations had been rendered one way. The amount of the dues ran in hundreds of thousands of rupees, sources in the telephone department said.

SECURITY: In the wake of Karachi blast, security has been mounted in the Larkana district. Police force had been deployed at sensitive points including mosques and imambargahs, said Mr Detho.

He said that situation in the district was normal but to remain on safe side, appropriate measures had been made to prevent any untoward incident. Meanwhile, it was learnt on good authority on Tuesday that the Central Police Office, Karachi, had asked the Larkana police to immediately send tear gas shells to the provincial capitol as its police was running short of them.

The Larkana police that had a stock of around 7,000 shells had dispatched 3,000 shells to Karachi, sources said. The regional police offices in Sukkur and Hyderabad had also been asked to immediately send tear gas shells to Karachi, sources disclosed.

MARKET COMMITTEE FEE: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has ordered to remove illegal checkpoints set up in the province for recovering market committee fees.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, Sindh-Balochistan Rice Millers and Traders Association president Gada Hussain Mahisar, who led a delegation of traders that met the governor on May 31, said that Mr Ibad was apprised about the contract system introduced for recovering market committee fees on agriculture produce.
