RAWALPINDI, Feb 26: The country could not progress unless women are equipped with modern and quality education, said adviser to the prime minister Nilofar Bakhtiar here on Thursday.

Inaugurating the new building of Government Girls Primary School in Kot Jatla, she said education was the remedy to most of the problems faced by our society, and could open new doors to success in every field of life.

The government is trying to provide education to women not only in the urban areas but also in the countryside, she said. She promised that a handicraft centre would be established in Pind Jatla in the near future, which would help improve the economic status of the local women.

She appreciated the efforts of President Pervez Musharraf and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for creating enlightening thinking among the people of rural areas.

Provincial Education Minister Imran Naeem, tehsil Nazim Hamid Nawaz and famous singer Shahzad Roy were also present. Later, they planted saplings in the compound of the new building.
