FAISALABAD, Feb 9: Nazims of two union councils were suspended on Monday after their matriculation certificates turned out to be fake. Muhammad Yaseen had alleged in a petition filed with the Chief Election Commissioner that UC No 217 Nazim Sardar Ali had presented a fake matriculation certificate. Yaseen was runner-up in the elections.

On reports of institutions concerned and after a detailed inquiry, the CEC declared the matriculation certificate of Sardar Ali bogus and suspended him. The district coordination officer restricted Rana Muhammad Asif, Nazim of UC No 242, from working after receiving a report from the education department that his matriculation certificate was a fake.

Two recovered: A bailiff recovered two people from the custody of a landlord of Chak 17 JB on Monday. Naveed had allegedly illegally detained Aslam and Asmat in his dera (outhouse) as they failed to pay back loan.

Relatives of the victims moved the district and sessions court which deputed a bailiff who recovered both the detainees and produced them before the court. The judge ordered police to take action against Naveed.

LOTTERY: The DPO has ordered his force to take action the people selling prize bond numbers and smash gambling dens. He told a meeting here in the Civil Lines on Monday that higher authorities had been receiving complaints about the increase in number of shops selling prize bond numbers.

Besides, 'gambler mafia' involved the poor and innocent people in gambling on cricket matches. He ordered deployment of armed police commandos at all sensitive places especially outside mosques and imambargahs before Muharram.
