GUJRANWALA, Jan 23: At least five people, including three students, were shot at and injured seriously by a bus crew on Friday during a clash on Alipur Chattha Road.
Two students of Alipur Chattha College - Irfan Aslam and Mazher Imran exchanged harsh words with conductor Iftikhar Ahmad and driver Mansha on their refusal to get them aboard the bus. The crew thrashed the students when they insisted on to get on the bus. At this, the enraged students started abusing the crew.
The situation turned from bad to worse when conductor Iftikhar opened indiscriminate fire on students gathered there. Consequently, Irfan Aslam, his brother Adnan, cousin Mazher and passers-by Inayatullah, Habibullah and Sardaran Bibi sustained bullet wounds. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Alipur Chattha from where Adnan was removed to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, in critical condition.
Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.Meanwhile, students of the Alipur Chattha College threatened to come on the road if the accused were not arrested forthwith.
ALLOCATED: All union, tehsil and district councils have been bounded legally to allocate 25 per cent share of its uplift budget for the 'Citizen Community Board' while the rest will be provided by the government for the provision of basic facilities like education, health and drinking water to the people.
This was stated by National Reconstruction Bureau Consultant Dr Anwar Butt and District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha while speaking at a workshop here on Friday. This workshop was held in connection with the training of citizen community boards chairman and secretaries which was organized by Social Welfare Department.
It was informed that some 3,258 citizen community boards had been constituted in the Punjab, 709 in Sindh, 941 in the NWFP and 119 in Balochistan by the end of Dec 2003 for this purpose.
The District Nazim pointed out that the district government had so far allocated Rs150 million for the Citizen Community Board. NAB consultant Col Muhammad Sadiq (retired), district coordination officer Fazeel Asghar and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
