GUJRANWALA, June 12: On its way to Islamabad, the long march convoy arrived here to a warm welcome at 12 midnight. Earlier, scores of caravans of lawyers, activists of political parties and civil society from across Punjab reached Lahore while else converged in different towns and cities to participate in the long march.
In Gujranwala, lawyers, traders and political activists decorated the city to accord a `historic’ welcome to long march participants coming from Lahore.
Lawyers set up a stage outside the old railway station and hoisted black flags and banners on GT Road from Chand da Qila bypass to Rawalpindi bypass. The banners were inscribed with slogans ‘Go Musharraf Go’, ‘the struggle will continue till the restoration of deposed judges, etc. The local DBA constituted nine committees to accord a warm welcome to the participants.
Members of different bars -- Hafizabad, Pindi Bhattian, Pasrur, Daska and Sialkot -- also gathered on the premises of Gujranwala bar.
Political activists also set up camps on the GT Road to receive long marchers. They also motivated the general public to take part in the movement for the restoration of deposed judges.
SHEIKHUPURA: A convoy of over 1,500 lawyers and activists of political parties and civil society converged at Azadi Chowk in Lahore to participate in the long march.
Led by bar president Nasrullah Wattoo, the convoy arrived at Lahore through several buses, coaches, wagons and private cars.
TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of PML-N activists departed for Lahore on Thursday morning to join the long march procession.
Led by PML district president Chaudhry Amjad Ali Javed, the convoy, also accompanied by MSF office-bearers, left the town in dozens of vehicles.
A group of activists, headed by PML leader Hameedullah Kharal, also left Kamalia for Lahore. While activists from Gojra were led by PML central leader M. Hamza.
Scores of lawyers also headed for Lahore from Gojra and Kamalia.
MANDI BAHAUDDIN: A big procession of lawyers and activists of the PML-N, APDM and civil society left for Saraey Alamgir on Thursday afternoon to join the long marchers. The procession, comprising dozens of vehicles, was led by PML-N district president and former MPA Dewan Mushtaq Ahmed and DBA president Muzaffar Iqbal Dhudhra.
SIALKOT: A convoy of Daska-based lawyers left for Gujrat to participate in the long march. Daska Bar president Chaudhry Muhammad Jamil and secretary-general Yasir Nazir Dhillon led the convoy.
