KOHAT, May 23: Several rockets were fired on the cantonment area and other parts of Kohat early on Friday morning.

The attack was launched hours after the formation of a committee for holding talks with Taliban in Darra Adamkhel.

Eyewitnesses said six rockets were fired from the Ghamkol mountains.

Two rockets fell close to the official residence of general officer commanding of the army’s IXth division and Cantonment Board offices but did not explode.

Only two rockets exploded, one near a CIA checkpost and another near the PAF firing range.

A minor girl was injured. The unexploded rockets were found in Jarwanda area, close to the PAF base and Faizabad.

Militants in Darra Adamkhel had warned that they would avenge the killing of one of their young members in a military operation a few days ago and destruction of houses by security forces.

Security has been beefed up in the city and a team has been sent to the mountains from where the rockets were believed to have been fired to inspect the site and collect evidence.
