Mukherjee meets party chiefs

ISLAMABAD: Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee called on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League leader Nawaz Sharif here on Tuesday and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.

Mr Mukherjee and Mr Zardari agreed to carry forward the peace process, PPP sources said.

According to the sources, the two leaders stressed the importance of enhancing economic, commercial, cultural and political cooperation.

The sources said the issue of prisoners also came up for discussion.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshanker Menon, Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Satyabrata Pal and Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali attended the meeting.

The Indian foreign minister also met chief of the Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali Khan.—Agencies
