SWABI, Jan 5: A union nazim and leader of the Awami National Party, Shahbaz Khan Lala, was shot dead here on Saturday.

Police said that the Daghai union council nazim, his son-in-law Saeed Khan and a relative Salim Khan were going somewhere when they came under attack. Police identified the alleged attacker as Shakirullah of the same area.

Shahbaz Khan died on the spot while the two others suffered injuries. The attacker escaped.

A case has been registered against Shakirullah.

The cause of the murder is said to be an old monetary dispute.

Shahbaz Khan Lala had won the union council nazim election two times. In 2002, he was ANP’s candidate for the Swabi tehsil nazim slot.
