SWABI, Dec 27: The Awami National Party on Thursday urged the district returning officer to take notice of the alleged unfair activities of district nazim Shahram Khan aimed at supporting the election campaign of his two uncles, Usman Khan Tarakai and Javid Iqbal Tarakai.

Usman Khan Tarakai is contesting the election against ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan from the NA-12 constituency and Javid Iqbal Tarakai is the arch rival of Amir Rehman of ANP in PF-32. ANP district president Haji Rehmanullah and general secretary Jehan Zeb Khan told journalists that they had already sent an application to the DRO complaining against the district nazim for announcing development works, provision of electricity polls and electricity transformers to manipulate voters.

“ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan also telephoned the official concerned and urged them to take action,” said Jehan Zeb Khan.

“He (Asfandyar Wali Khan) warned the officials that if such activities of the nazim were not stopped he would stage a protest demonstration because these were the flagrant violations of the code of conduct,” he said.

Meanwhile, through a unanimously adopted resolution passed at a meeting, the ANP leaders asked the government to take an immediate notice of the district nazim’s activities.

They said that if such activities were not stopped it would create doubt about the credibility of the polls.“It was the responsibility of the government to prevent his (nazim’s) interference in the election process which the government claimed would be free, fair and transparent,” said Mr Jehan Zeb.
