HARIPUR, Oct 1: Two people were killed and two others,

including a constable, suffered injuries in an encounter between police and a gang of alleged criminals here on Monday. Six people were arrested, police said.

District Police Officer Attiqullah Wazir said that a police party was deployed at the Chamba Bridge on the GT road after receiving information that a gang, known as Jaiba group, would try to smuggle a big quantity of weapons.

He said policemen signalled a pick-up to stop for checking, but the men travelling in the vehicle opened fire on policemen. Police fired back and forced them to stop, he added.

The injured were taken to the DHQ hospital Haripur and the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad where two of them died.—Correspondent
