KOHAT, Sept 2: The deputy inspector-general of police for Kohat region, Zulfiqar Cheema, on Sunday formally launched peace committees at every police station which would settle petty disputes out of court.

Addressing the first meeting of the selected members of the peace committee, police officers, nazims and councillors, he said the main purpose of the committees was to provide justice to the poor people through reconciliation in order to save their time and money.

This, he hoped, would also save precious time of the judiciary as all petty disputes like land and property, family problems, water supply, sanitation etc. would be solved at the local level.

He urged the members to perform their job with honesty and take decisions above their political, caste and creed affiliations to ensure peace and harmony in the society.

He said the peace committees would be provided office at every police station where three to four members of the committee would ensure their presence for at least four hours everyday.

He handed over 20 cases to the respective local committees at the end of the function and asked the police officers and members to solve them immediately.

The function was attended by elders of the area, District Police Officer Dr Vaqar, Assistant Superintendent of Police Athar Waheed, DSPs of all circles and station house officers of all police stations of Kohat district.
