NAWABSHAH, Sept 1: Police produced in the district sessions court police officials of Lyari Task Force, who faced charges of killing Rasool Bux Brohi in a fake encounter, on Saturday.

Nawabshah District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Qadir Leghari adjourned the hearing of the case till Sept 19.

Police brought Chaudhry Aslam, former SP and In-charge of Lyari Task Force, Inspector Sarwar Commando, Nasirul Hassan, Syed Safdar Shah, Sub-Inspectors Asif Jameel Qureshi, Mir Farosh, Mujeebur Rehman Tanwri, ASIs Abdul Ghani Khushik and Mohammed Iqbal Niazi, Head Constable Syed Bahadur Shah, Constable Hidayatullah and police informer Nazeer alias Nazru Khaskheli and others from Karachi Central Jail. Inspector Ishaque Lashari, one of the accused, could not be produced in court due to hearing of his case in a NAB court in Karachi.

Later, one of the accused, Abdul Ghani Khushik, used abusive language against journalists and cameraman of a private TV channel and threatened them with dire consequences. He had threatened them in past also but no action had been taken so far in this regard.

HOSTAGE FREED: Arshad Ali Memon, who was kidnapped by seven armed men a couple of weeks ago reached home on Friday evening amid police claims he had been freed by their efforts and his father’s insistence that the family had not paid any ransom.

Fida Hussain Memon, Arshad’s father, told journalists that his son had been freed without any ransom and refused to make further comments.But sources said that the kidnappers had received Rs300,000 to Rs500,000 for releasing Mr Arshad. They left him in Lai in Dera Allahyar town in Balochistan after giving him Rs255 bus fare and telling him to go home, sources said.

DPO Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali took the credit for Mr Arshad’s release and said that police made efforts for his safe recovery and also arrested a number of people.

He claimed that the kidnappers released Arshad under pressure from police.
