HYDERABAD, June 30: PPP Tharparkar president Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani has said that keeping in view the 2002 voters’ list, about 83,272 voters have been deleted and more than 50,000 bogus voters have been registered in the current list.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Saturday, he alleged that the election commission in Tharparkar district was directly working under Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

He demanded that a judicial inquiry should be held on the registration of bogus voters and the voters whose names had been registered twice.

Dr Malani, who had contested by-election on a National Assembly seat against Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, said that 80 per cent of the notified display centres simply did not exist while the remaining 20 per cent centres had been established in schools which had been converted into drawing rooms of the powers that be.

He said that even at these display centres neither the voters’ registration forms nor the objection forms were available.

He said the display centres had been set up in the far-flung areas where there were only 50 to 200 registered voters, but thickly-populated areas where 2,000 voters were registered were ignored.

He said people had to travel 20 to 30 kilometres to see their names at the display centres.Dr Malani said Goth Kantio had the main road and electricity and 3,000 registered voters, but this place was not selected for the display centre.

He said, contrary to this, a display centre had been set up in Goth Sobdar Nohri which was 20 kilometres away and had only 200 registered voters.

He said that according to the 2002 voters’ list, there were 124,892 registered voters in Mithi taluka, but in the present list only 97,049 voters have been registered.

He said that the same was the case with Diplo, Nagarparkar and Chhachhro talukas.

Not only this but in Mithi town, 4,500 double and bogus voters had been registered, he added.

He said in Gadro circle of Chhachhro taluka, the names of 20,000 voters had not been included although the people were in possession of receipt of depositing their forms.
