Published January 12, 2007

KHAIRPUR, Jan 11: A large number of sugarcane growers under the banner of the Shehri Ittehad and the Khairpur Abadgar Ittehad staged a demonstration in Razidero, Gambat taluka, on Thursday to protest against motorway police.

Speaking on the occasion, the farmers’ leaders said that during the supply of the sugarcane to the Kiran, Ranipur and Khairpur sugar mills, the motorway police were imposing a fine of Rs500 to Rs1,000 on sugarcane-laden tractor trolleys.

They announced that they would stage protest demonstrations in Agra on January 13, in Gambat on 15, in Khairpur on 17 and at Tando Masti bypass on 21 if motorway police did not stop the practice.
