SWABI, Nov 25: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has announced Rs920 million for the construction of Swabi-Jehangira Road, and said work on the project will start soon.

Speaking at a function here on Saturday, he directed the local authorities to initiate work on Chota Lahor-Adina Road which would cost Rs290 million.

He also announced various development schemes for Swabi district. Upgradation of Topi to tehsil was a longstanding demand of the local people, he said, adding that work on the newly-created Topi tehsil would start within a week.

Mr Durrani said that a model school would be established in the district. The provincial government would provide a grant of Rs2 million for the project, he added. He said that a government degree college for boys would also be set up in Swabi Khas. He asked the leaders and people of the area to select a suitable site for the project.

He informed that the district headquarter hospital in Shahmansoor Township had been completed and would start operating in a month. Requirements of staff and equipment would be fulfilled very soon, he said.—Correspondent
