THATTA, Nov 18: District Nazim Shafqat Shah Shirazi has said that despite huge funds and facilities at the disposal of officials of the education department and non-governmental organisations, there is no improvement in the education sector.

He said that no one was ready to accept responsibilities of ever-declining standard of education in the district.

He was speaking at a ceremony organised at the Government Girl’s College Thatta to disburse Rs3,500 scholarships paid monthly to some 95 deserving but meritorious students of XI class under the DEEP project of the Sindh education department on Saturday.

He stressed the need to change such an attitude in the interest of education, especially girls’ education in the rural areas.

He said that the government under a long-term strategy had provided ample funds, facilities and scholarship for girl students as an incentive to encourage them.

He advised the recipients that on completion of their education they should work in their villages so as the government could achieve educational objectives before scheduled time.

Prof Ghulam Mustafa Charan said that two schools from each taluka had been selected under the DEEP project.

Selected students of the school will be given scholarships and under a bond to be executed by parents of the students, on completion of B. Ed, they would be employed as teachers and bound to serve in their respective areas.

He said that girl students with insufficient means of class-IX would also get scholarships and documentation was under process to identify comparatively deprived areas where deserving students should get the scholarships.

He said that DEEP had also arranged training for three officials of the education department and Aga Khan Education Wing had also started training for B.Ed and M.Ed teachers.

EDO (education) Qamaruzzaman Siddiqui also spoke on the occasion.
