GUJRANWALA, Nov 6: Armed bandits struck five times in and around the city on Monday. Four dacoits entered the house of Abdul Rehman in Kotli Arora village, held up the inmates hostage at gunpoint, collected Rs300,000 in cash, jewellery and electronic items and escaped.

Two robbers intercepted traders Abdul Rashid Chohan and Muhammad Mushtaq and snatched Rs60,000 in cash from them.

Gunmen deprived Mohsin Amin of cash and a mobile phone in Peoples Colony.

Two robbers intercepted Qamar Shah on Pasrur Road and relieved him of Rs40,000 in cash and a mobile phone.

ARRESTED: The district police on Monday claimed to have arrested five culprits, including a ringleader, involved in kidnapping of a trader.

Reports said that accused Tariq Mahmood, Alamgir, Khalid Mahmood, Adnan Kalu and Jehangir had kidnapped Amir Shahzad on Oct 18 and demanded Rs10 million ransom for his release. However, they released him after receiving Rs3 million from his family.

On directions of DPO Mian Muhammad Asif, a special team was deputed that arrested the accused in Chak Sanata, Muridkey. Police also recovered Rs2.2 million, a car and illicit arms from their possession.

INJURED: At least a dozen passengers were injured when a bus plunged into a ditch near Ghumanwala village on Sheikhupura Road on Monday.

The accident occurred when the driver of the Faisalabad-bound bus lost his control over the steering due to high speed.
