DADU, Oct 24: Dadu Taluka Nazim Naban Khan Lund surrendered to the DPO on Monday while police booked his two sons and eight alleged accomplices on charges of killing a jail guard.

It has been reported that the nazim stormed the district jail on Sunday with more than 50 supporters, damaged a part of the building and occupied the jail, which they vacated after some time.

But the nazim came back a few hours later with his sons who, on the orders of their father, fired on jail guard Gul Mohammad Jatoi. The guard died on the spot.

Dadu Jail Superintendent Ashique Ali Bozdar complained to Dadu town police in the presence of DIG of jails, Nawaz Hussain, that the taluka nazim with 50 to 60 supporters and personal guards forced into the old part of district jail building on Sunday at 11 am and started pulling it down.

They occupied the building and left it after the DCO intervened and persuaded them to end the occupation.

At 6 pm, the nazim came back once again to the jail in his double cabin accompanied by his two sons, Aftab Khan Lund and Mehmood Khan, his official police guard, Sharif Lund, Mohammad Siddique Mallah and six other people armed with sophisticated weapons, he said.

When the jail guards were having Iftar Naban Khan entered the jail and ordered his son, Aftab, to open fire on the jail guard, Gul Mohammad Jatoi, he claimed.

Lund’s son did as he was asked. He killed Gul Mohammad and injured another guard, Ghulam Farooq Saand.

he said adding that when the nazim occupied the jail and later came back to kill the guard he kept informing the higher authorities on telephone about the developments.

The SHO of Dadu town police station had earlier picked up a jail guard, Mohammad Hanif Jatoi, at the behest of taluka nazim, who was released after four hours.

The jail superintendent also complained that the nazim also took away with him two official SMGs (No.35153 and 31881) with magazines and material of the demolished building.

Police have registered an FIR (No347) under section 302, 324, 353, 147, 148, 365, 511, 114, 149 PPC and 17/3 HO against taluka nazim, Naban Khan Lund, his two sons, Aftab Lund, Mehmood Lund, Sharif Lund (nazim’s police guard), Mohammad Siddique Mallah and six other unknown men.

Dadu TPO Gul Mohammad Chachar succeeded in arresting Sharif Lund, Mohammad Siddique Mallah and a number of other accused whose names could not be ascertained after raids on different places in the town. The nazim surrendered to DPO in his office and was sent to police lockup.

STRIKE: Dadu remained closed on Monday in protest against the killing of the jail guard, Gul Mohammad Jatoi.

The leaders of Dadu Awami Ittehad, which comprises 29 social organisations and NGOs, Gul Mohammad Joyo, Inayat Jamali and Qaim Ali Siyal demanded that the chief minister suspend taluka nazim.

DEMO: Hundreds of people from Jatoi community staged a four-hour demonstration on Indus Highway near Dadu town on Monday in protest against police’s failure to arrest the accused nominated in the FIR of the murder of Gul Mohammad Jatoi.

The sons, Mohammad Umer and Anwar, and close relatives led the protest. They said that police had failed in arresting Naban Khan’s sons, Aftab Lund and Mehmood Lund.

The late Jatoi’s sons threatened to commit self-immolation if police failed to arrest all the accused and did not send the case to court.
