HYDERABAD, Oct 13: Qasimabad police on Thursday arrested Javed Samoo, the alleged ringleader of robbers’ gang for carrying out a number of armed robberies in the city over the last two months.

Police sources told Dawn that Samoon was arrested three days ago near Hill Top incline by a team headed by Qasimabad TPO Mohammad Ali Baloch and the SHO of Baldia police station.

The sources said that the police grilled him about his crimes and succeeded in getting a confession. He had disclosed the names of Raheem Detho, Ghulam Nabi Memon, Ghulam Hyder Notkani and two other members of his gang, notorious in criminal circle by the name of “Kheer Patti” and “Doctor”, the sources said.

Police had not yet officially confirmed about his arrest for want of investigation. They were interrogating him especially about an armed robbery involving ASI Inayat Zardari of Qasimabad investigation wing, the sources said.

The ASI was robbed of Rs0.3 million on June 6 by Samoon and five others the moment he withdrew the amount from a branch of Habib Bank Limited on Station Road in the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station outside the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the sources said.

The sources said that Samoo who was present in the same branch informed on the cellphone his accomplices waiting outside. Police identified Samoo in the footage recorded by a close circuit TV camera installed in the bank, the sources said.
