HYDERABAD, Aug 17: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that 27 development schemes were completed under the Sindh Devolved Social Services Programme during the 2004-05 year.

Speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday, he said that out of the total amount of Rs104.439 million allocated for the schemes, Rs41.266 million had been spent on 13 health schemes and Rs47.308 million on 14 education schemes.

He said that according to rules and regulations of the SDSSP, an amount of Rs10.639 million had been spent on health and education development schemes of NGOs. He said that the programme was aimed at providing facilities in existing health and education organisations.

He called upon functionaries concerned to consult heads of various organisations with regards to priorities before preparing development programme.

He said that the district government was striving to resolve problems of the people not only under the SDSSP but also under its own annual development programme.

He told the meeting that the Hyderabad district government was preparing a comprehensive strategy for the development of health and education sectors for the 2005-06 year under the SDSSP for which an amount of Rs43.542 million had been approved.

SDSSP director Qazi Kabir and officials of departments concerned were present on the occasion.

SPRAY: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the health department to carry out anti-malaria spray in the district as soon as the rainy season was over.

He was speaking at a meeting of the district health committee at his office here on Thursday.

DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, EDO (health) Nazar Mohammad Junejo and other members of the health committee attended the meeting.

He said that the district government had taken effective measures to drain out accumulated rainwater although there had been incessant rains during the monsoon season.

He said that it was necessary to carry out spray to check diseases specially malaria and typhoid.

The EDO health told the meeting that mobile anti-malaria teams had been put on high alert and they would move into action after rains.
