LARKANA: A big chunk of the RCC plaster, along with a large portion of the false ceiling covering it, fell onto a patient and her attendants in a ward at the Chandka Medical College Teaching Hospital on Sunday.

The elderly patient, Pathani Khatoon, her two daughters, Ms Rozina and Ms Rubina, and her daughter-in-law Hazooran Khatoon, were seriously injured in the incident. The hospital staff and the victims’ relatives rushed them to the Larkana Trauma Centre for emergency treatment.

The victims are residents of the city’s Luhar Colony.

The debris fell with a loud bang causing panic, fear and chaos among all those present in the building, which houses the gastro, liver and intestinal ward.

Several beds and other furniture in the ward were also damaged in the incident.

People were seen rushing out of the ward, screaming in panic, to save their lives.

Advocate Abdul Hafeez Chawro, a relative of Pathani Khatoon, told media personnel that she had been admitted to the hospital and accommodated in the ward for the treatment of lung ailment.

He stressed that the Sindh government must take immediate measures to rebuild the hospital’s several buildings and structures, which were in a dilapidated condition, in order to avoid recurrence of such incidents.t
