KARACHI: A huge fire that erupted in an under-construction building in Clifton was controlled after hectic efforts lasting for several hours, police and rescue services officials said.
A Rescue-1122 spokesperson said in a statement that the fire had erupted in an air-conditioning duct on the seventh floor of the building, which has 20 floors.
Four fire tenders and one water snorkel took part in the fire-fighting operation, he said, adding that there was no one present in the building.
He said after receiving information, the firemen reached the building at about 5:42pm. They faced difficulties moving from floor to floor because of cement and wood planks.
He said the exact cause of the fire would be ascertained after proper investigation. He said no one was injured as there was no one on the premises.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza said the fire had erupted at the under-construction building near Benazir Park at Boat Basin.
He said it seemed that a short circuit caused the fire.
“The fire has been extinguished,” he said, adding that the cooling process is underway.
