ISLAMABAD: Two motorcyclists sustained injuries after being hit by an official vehicle allegedly driven by the son of a member of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control late Saturday night.

The suspect was driving a white Toyota Corolla Altis bearing official green registration plates. He allegedly drove at high speed, jumped a red light and hit the motorcycle.

A case was registered at Kohsar police station under Sections 337-G, 279 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code in response to a complaint lodged by one of the injured men.

According to the FIR, Roman Shahid and his office colleague were travelling on a motorcycle towards Margalla Road from the Daman-i-Koh side after their traffic signal turned green. Meanwhile, a Corolla Altis bearing registration plate GAW-308, driven by the suspect, approached from the E-7 side of Margalla Road at high speed.

The car allegedly jumped the red light and hit the motorcycle as the two-wheeler was crossing Margalla Road. Both riders fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries. The motorcycle was also badly damaged. A number of people gathered at the scene, and the injured were later shifted to hospital.

The FIR stated that the suspect drove the car rashly and at high speed, violated the traffic signal and hit the complainant and his colleague. The complainant sought strict legal action against the driver.

When contacted, the police public relations branch said the suspect had been released on bail granted by the duty judicial magistrate after the matter was settled through a compromise between the complainant and the suspect.
