ISLAMABAD: A soldier was martyred and 12 terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

According to ISPR, a group of terrorists was detected trying to cross into the Kurram district from Afghanistan on Sunday, when the security forces engaged them effectively and foiled the attempt.

It said that Afghan Taliban posts had also opened fire to support the infiltration attempt by the khawarij — the term the state uses to identify members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) outfit.

“The skilful and precise engagement by vigilant troops resulted in the killing of 12 khawarij and Afghan Taliban,” the statement said. During the exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman was martyred after “fighting gallantly”, it added.
