RAWALPINDI: With over 9,500 police personnel deployed and a flag march held on Sunday to enforce Section 144 in the garrison city, law enforcement agencies have intensified vigilance and heightened monitoring through Safe City’s high-tech surveillance cameras.

In view of the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police have been placed on high alert.

A police spokesman said out of the 9,500 police personnel, 3,500 personnel have been deployed at different intersections, entry points and at important government installations to maintain order, while the remaining 6,000 police are performing security duty at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium where a cricket T20 series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is underway.

As part of tightened security, more than 750 police personnel have been deployed in the Red Zone – starting from Mall Road to the Old Airport, whereas random checking of vehicles has also been started at 31 police check points established in the city.

A total of 31 special police pickets have been established where two SPs, six ASPs, 16 SHOs and inspectors, 54 upper subordinates and 258 constables were deployed to ensure tightened security on Mall Road and Red Zone.

Similarly, 83 commandos, including 19 upper subordinates of the Elite Force, have also been deployed for security.

Similarly, police have also been deployed at 10 metro bus stations from Saddar to Metro Station Faizabad.

Police pickets will also be deployed from Faizabad towards Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

CPO Rawalpindi Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera led a flag march of Rawalpindi police, while SSP Operations, SSP Investigation, chief traffic officer, SP Security, SP Headquarters and other senior officers also participated in the flag march.

The flag march started from Police Lines and passed through Ammar Chowk, Koral, Rahimabad, Rawal Road, Murree Road, Faizabad, Murree Chowk, Mall Road, Saddar, Peshawar Road and other areas of the city before ending at Police Lines.

The aim of the flag march is to express the commitment to ensure law and order in the city.
