BAJAUR/MOHMAND: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers on Sunday staged a demonstration to protest the imposition of the governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The demonstration was held in Inayat Kallay Bazaar, where PTI workers chanted slogans against the federal government.

PTI activists Habib Khan, Muhsin Khan and others condemned the federal government for removing the provincial government by imposing governor’s rule and emergency in the province.

They also expressed anger over the arrest of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the party’s provincial president Junid Akbar Khan and other leaders.

As the protest was underway, a police team reached the venue to stop the demonstrators, leading to an exchange of harsh words and a scuffle between some policemen and PTI workers.

However, the protesters continued agitating after assuring the police that they would remain peaceful and only wanted to record their condemnation of the federal government’s “undemocratic move”.

The protesters, in the absence of party lawmakers, vowed to continue their agitation against the move, calling it totally unacceptable.

On Saturday night, MPAs Anwar Zeb Khan, Ajmal Khan, Dr Hamidur Rehman and PTI district president Gul Dad Khan had announced that they would hold protest demonstrations in Khar and Inayat Kallay bazaars and in their native areas on Sunday.

However, except for the protest at Inayat Kallay Bazaar, no reports of other demonstrations were received till the filing of this report on Sunday evening.

Like other parts of the province, mobile and internet services also remained suspended in Bajaur on Sunday.

Also, police reportedly conducted raids to arrest MPAs Dr Hamidur Rehman and Anwar Zeb Khan.

“A police team attempted to arrest Dr Rehman by raiding our house, but luckily he was not at home,” said Obaidur Rehman, the lawmaker’s younger brother, in a social media post.

Similarly, MPA Anwar Zeb claimed in a social media post on Sunday evening that a police team tried to arrest him by raiding his house in the Raghagan area of Khar tehsil. However, he said that the police failed to do so as he wasn’t at home.

Sharing photos of policemen allegedly raiding his house, Mr Zeb said such unlawful actions would not deter him and other party workers, adding that they stood firm with their narrative and Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, sources told Dawn that besides major bazaars, scores of policemen remained deployed at several public places as part of arrangements to prevent PTI workers from ‘taking the law into their own hands’ under the garb of protests.

In Mohmand, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers and residents of Mohmand district held a protest demonstration at Mian Mandi Bazaar on Sunday against the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The demonstration was addressed by MNA Sajid Khan Mohmand, PTI district president and former district nazim Malik Naveed Ahmed Mohmand, party leader Hafiz Rahim Shah Mohmand, Maulana Amirullah Junaidi and general secretary Jamdad Safi.

District party leaders, office-bearers of the Insaf Youth Wing, party workers and local residents participated in the demonstration.

The protesters rejected the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency. They pledged to stand with PTI founder Imran Khan in what the party describes as its struggle for “Haqeeqi Azadi” (real freedom).
