MIANWALI: The food department Mianwali with the help of police foiled an attempt on Saturday to smuggle huge quantities of wheat and flour to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

District Food Controller Khadim Hussain Fraz said the food department conducted an operation at the Kot Bailian interchange in the jurisdiction of Daud Khel Police Station and intercepted five loaded trucks heading towards KP.

All trucks were wrapped in plastic sheets to hide their load.

When the officials removed plastic sheets, they found 1,250 wheat sacks of 100kg each (125 tonnes) from three trucks and 2,600 flour bags (52 tonnes) from the trucks heading towards KP. The truck driver presented transportation permits but they were fake.

The officials arrested the drivers, seized wheat and flour and shifted them to the food centre in Mianwali.
