Post-war disruption in RLNG behind loadshedding, claims Lesco

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) says the loadshedding/load management in its areas is due to non-operation of the plants run by the regasified liquified natural gas (RLNG), which is suspended due to war in the Middle East.

The company says that the situation has led to temporary load management for two hours during the evening and night hours amid a reduction in electricity generation caused by disruptions in the international supply chain and delays in liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes.

According to a Lesco spokesperson, in a press release, the disruption has affected the supply of the RLNG to some power plants, resulting in a decline in electricity generation and a gap between demand and supply.

The company clarified that the temporary load management was currently being carried out during the evening and night hours, while no load management was being undertaken during the daytime.

Lesco said measures were being taken to maintain a stable electricity supply to consumers and ensure the effective utilisation of available resources.

The company expressed optimism that electricity generation would improve once RLNG supplies returned to normal. “An improvement in fuel availability is expected to reduce the power shortfall and help bring the temporary load management to an end,” it added.

Lesco said it was taking necessary steps to stabilise the distribution system in accordance with the available electricity. It added that category-based economic load management was also being implemented, under the prescribed policy, on feeders with high line losses to reduce electricity losses.
