LARKANA: As part of its “public awareness campaign”, the Awami Tehreek (AT) held a rally in Qambar on Saturday against the alleged conspiracies to divide Sindh, the seizure of its land and natural resources, corporate farming, the possible 28th Amendment, the construction of all new dams and canals, including that of Jalalpur, and rising inflation.

AT central general secretary Sajid Hussain Mahesar, Qambar-Shahdadkot district organiser Muhammad Rafi Leghari, Dr Hafeeza Rahoojo and others led the rally. It set off from Qambar bus stop and after marching on main roads converged at the Qambar Press Club.

Workers of the Awami Tehreek and its sister organisations, peasants, landowners, youth and citizens took part in the protest.

The participants carrying banners and placards chanted slogans for the unity of Sindh and the protection of the Indus River’s water, provincial land and natural resources.

Addressing the gathering, the leaders said Sindh was the historic homeland of the Sindhis and that no conspiracy against its unity would be accepted.

They said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had bartered away Sindh’s unity for the sake of power. The PPP, they noted, is an ally of the federal government, which they accused of plotting against Sindh.

They called on the PPP to end what they termed “drama and fraud” and either demand that the prime minister remove Mohsin Naqvi from his ministry or move a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
