SUKKUR / BADIN: The Awami Tehreek (AT) on Thursday staged public awareness marches across Sukkur, Badin, and other parts of Sindh to protest against the proposed division of the province, controversial canal projects, and attempts to wrest control of its land and natural resources.

In Sukkur, the march commenced from the Sukkur Hockey Ground on Workshop Road and culminated at Ghanta Ghar.

Led by AT Central Senior Vice-President Noor Ahmed Katiar, Central Leader Advocate Sarwan Jatoi, District President Ayaz Kalwar, and Sindhyani Tehreek Sukkur President Shamshad Bapar, alongside Riaz Malik, Zulfiqar Mirani, Mounis Ibrahim, and Aamir Phulpoto, participants distributed handbills among citizens along the route.

Addressing media representatives, party leaders alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were conspiring to divide Sindh under the pretext of a proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment. They asserted that the ruling coalition had previously pushed through the 26th and 27th amendments to place the judiciary under executive control.

The speakers declared that the people of Sindh would resist any attempt to alter the province’s territorial integrity.

The AT leadership also expressed grief over the tragic deaths of 15 children in a fire incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, attributing the tragedy to criminal negligence.

They demanded strict punishment for those responsible and called for the immediate resignation of Federal Health Minister and MQM leader Mustafa Kamal.

The leaders further criticized the minister’s public demeanor and alleged that MQM representatives were brought into power through Form 47, asserting that rulers who failed to manage the federal capital had no authority to dictate administrative divisions elsewhere.

Meanwhile, in Badin district, the AT organized a three-kilometre march from Lakhmir Nizamani village to Dilbar Nizamani village in Kario Ghanwar.

Led by AT District President Mehran Dars, Sindhi Students Tehreek District President Gulzar Nohani, and Sindhi Hari Tehreek District President Jakhro, participants distributed pamphlets across local villages before convening a public meeting at the venue.

Addressing the gathering, speakers accused the federal government and non-political forces of interfering in provincial affairs, emphasizing that Sindh’s historic lands, water, and mineral wealth remained non-negotiable.

They also criticized the PPP for allegedly facilitating federal policies while maintaining a contradictory public posture in the province. The rallies form part of a broader, province-wide campaign launched by the Awami Tehreek earlier this month.
