KARACHI: A sessions court on Saturday sentenced two accused persons to life in prison in a drug trafficking case.

The judge of a special court for control of narcotic substances, Kamran Atta Soomro, found Amjad and Hassan Siddiqui guilty of carrying over 26 kilograms of hashish in October 2023 at a Gulshan-i-Maymar locality.

The lawyers for the accused persons argued that their clients were innocent and had been framed with mala fide intention and ulterior motives as the alleged recovery was foisted upon them.

They also contended that the accused persons did not know each other and never came into contact while no private person has been made a witness in the case and there were material contradictions in the evidence of prosecution witnesses, making the case doubtful.

A prosecutor of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) argued that the witnesses had fully supported the case of the prosecution and both accused were apprehended at the spot and they had voluntarily produced 22 packets of narcotic wrapped in yellow tape.

After recording evidence and hearing both sides, the special court pronounced its judgement and observed that the accused persons have failed to bring anything on record to show any enmity, ill will or mala fide on the part of complainant or other witnesses to falsely implicate them in the case.

“All the witnesses were cross examined by learned defence counsel at length, but nothing could be brought on record, which can create dent in prosecution case,” it added.

According to the prosecution, the ANF had received spy information about delivery of a huge quantity of drugs and they had arrested them at the spot when they were exchanging hashish and recovered 22 packets from a bag and each packet contained 1,200 grams.
