MANSEHRA: A man took his life by jumping into the Kunhar River at Garhi Habibullah while another lost his life after falling into a ravine in Naran area of Balakot tehsil here on Saturday.

“We have been searching continuously for the body of the man, who jumped into the Kunhar River,” the district emergency officer of Rescue 1122, Ibrar Ali, told journalists.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, Mohammad Munir, 45, who was reportedly experiencing domestic problems, jumped into the river near the central bridge in Garhi Habibullah to take his life.

The divers present at the site launched a rescue operation, but he was swept away by strong currents. A search operation was continuing the entire day. “We have also sought the assistance of professional divers, but the high water level and strong currents have been hampering the search operation,” Mr Ali said.

He said that Rescue 1122 personnel had been deployed along riverbanks to prevent tourists and locals from approaching the river during the ongoing monsoon season.

In a separate incident, 22-year-old Mohammad Umar was killed after falling into a deep ravine while grazing livestock in the mountainous of Lambi Dehri area in Naran.

Rescue 1122 personnel shifted him to a nearby health facility. However, he was referred to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra wherehe was pronounced dead.

The body was handed over to his family after completion of the medico-legal formalities.

In another incident, three tourists fell unconscious after allegedly consuming expired biscuits at a Balakot hotel.

Rescue 1122 personnel shifted them to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where doctors declared their condition to be out of danger.

The tourists belonged to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Abbottabad.
