Man held with four protected snakes in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A man was arrested after four protected snakes were recovered from him and a case was registered against him, police said.

The case was registered against the man under section 16 (1) B of the Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act 2024 in response to a complaint lodged by Wildlife Guard Islamabad Mohammad Sarwar at Sabzi Mandi police station.

The police said that the wildlife staff recovered the four protected snakes from a man at Mandi Mor. Later, the staff approached the police and arrested the man and registered a case against him.

The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) said that the board in coordination with Islamabad police, successfully pursued a case involving the illegal possession of four protected snakes.

The accused was produced before the learned Magistrate, who imposed a fine of Rs300,000. In default of payment, the accused was sent to Adiala Jail.

The confiscated snakes were taken into the custody of IWMB and shifted to the IWMB Rescue Centre for proper care and will be released into their natural habitat after assessment.

IWMB reiterates that the illegal possession, capture, and trade of protected wildlife are punishable offences under the Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act, 2024.
