SAHIWAL: The young girl who died by suicide turned out to be an MS Psychology student of the University of Sahiwal.
Report said a young girl jumped into the Lower Bari Doab Canal from a flyover. Some passer-by alerted Rescue 1122 which launched a search operation.
The body was recovered from the same spot where she had jumped into the water.
The girl was later identified as Aiman Iqbal, 24, a resident of Mohalla Manpura, Pakpattan, who was married in Harappa.
Her father, Javed Iqbal, alleged that her daughter was driven to end her life due to the mental and physical torture and divorce threats from her in-laws and expat husband, Mohsin Shehzad.
According to details, Mohsin, son of Allah Bakhsh from Mian Dera Lodhi, Harappa, married Aimen three years ago. But she was married off on the condition that she would be allowed to complete her education. Her husband was working in Dubai.
However, in August 2025, Mohsin’s mother and sisters — Asifa, Shaheen, Sana, and Sidra — took jewellery worth Rs500,000 from the deceased’s mother on the pretext of examining it. Later, it was revealed to her that it had been stolen.
Later, her sisters-in-law started defaming her character as she was studying in the university, and her husband began issuing divorce threats. The psychological abuse and physical torture from her husband and in-laws allegedly compelled her to take her own life. After the post-mortem, her body was handed over to the family.
Sahiwal City Police registered a case against Mohsin on the complaint of Aiman’s father Javed Iqbal.
